David's Bio
- David Meiswinkle has spent his life in public service—as an Army veteran, police officer, attorney, educator, community advocate, and longtime resident of East Windsor, New Jersey.
- David is running for Mercer County Sheriff because he believes in the importance of public safety and that the Sheriff must serve every resident, every community, and every family with integrity, professionalism, and respect.
- Raised in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, David moved to Millville, New Jersey, where he became a student leader and varsity athlete.
- David served as Junior Class President and Senior Class President and was a member of the Millville High School varsity basketball team that won the 1967–68 Group IV South Jersey Championship.
- David earned his B.A. in Geography from Rutgers College, where he served as Rutgers Student Body President, advocating for student representation and coeducation. He later earned a master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration from New York University.
- From 1974 to 1976, David served in the United States Army in Germany, working in the Pershing nuclear missile program. He also competed and was pace setter of an Army championship marching team, completing demanding long-distance marches in Europe.
- Returning to New Jersey, David became a Coordinator of Handicapped Affairs at Rutgers College, helping establish transportation services and student advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
- David’s Career in Law Enforcement and Law:
- David served 23 years with the New Brunswick Police Department, earning recognition as an outstanding athlete at the Union County Police Academy. During his police career, he became involved in investigations and community issues and demonstrated a willingness to stand up when he believed public accountability was at stake.
- While working as a police officer, David attended Seton Hall University School of Law at night, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1989.
- He subsequently opened a law practice in New Brunswick and spent approximately a decade assisting the Middlesex and Somerset County Public Defender’s Office by handling hundreds of criminal cases.
- David was the President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry, a non profit organization of professionals which investigated the 9/11 crimes as well as the anthrax attacks and presented significant evidence to the federal authorities.
- He has also taught philosophy as an adjunct professor and has remained active in civic and community affairs throughout his career.
- A Life of Service, Leadership and Adventure:
- David’s commitment to public service has been matched by an adventurous spirit. In 1980–81, he took a six-and-a-half-month leave of absence with a back-pack and traveled independently around the world, visiting countries across Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe, including trekking in the Himalayas and visiting the Mount Everest area.
- He later completed a 450-mile hiking and camping journey connecting significant 9/11 sites, from Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to the Pentagon and ultimately to Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan which was dedicated to the victims of 9/11 and their families.
- David is currently the President of the National American Renaissance Movement, a NJ non profit organization dedicated to preserving national and individual sovereignty and freedom.
David is a father of three children and grandfather of five.
His career has taken him from the Army to the police department, courtroom, classroom and community—and has taught him the importance of courage, accountability, fairness and service to others.
